One Plane or Two Plane Golf Swing?

The golf swing plane is a key fundamental of thegolf swing. Basically defined, the swing plane is the path that the golf club travels during the golf swing. A consistent golf plane will hold the club on a similar  arc  for every golf swing.

To visualize the swing plane,  visualize  a broad pane of glass which flows from the ball to just above the shoulders. The arms and club should stay under the pane of glass throughout the swing.

By regularly repeating a similar golf swing plane, a golf player will boost their golf ball striking as a result of solid contact at impact. A great golf swing plane should enhance your accuracy, increase distance, and lower your golf scores.

Swing planes will vary from individual to individual based on a player’s height and address position. A taller golfer does  have a a lot more upright plane while a smaller golfer will have a flatter plane. The lengthier the club you use, the  less steep  the swing plane becomes. Other components impacting the golf swing plane are spine angle, golf club head position, space from the ball, and hip rotation.

The golf swing plane is made up of 3 elements: the backswing, the downswing, and the follow through. In the  present day golf swing, there is  the one plane golf swing and the two plane golf swing.

A correct golf swing arc is initiated by moving the shoulders and hips while allowing the arms and hands to elevate in response to this motion. The lifting of the hands or arms separate of this turning movement will break the imaginary glass pane and  route  the club off the intended arc.

Keeping a constant head  position, consistent spine angle (no lifting of the upper body), and repeatable address position (space from  the golf ball), will also make sure that the club is staying on a similar swing  arc  all through the swing.

There are quite a few golf swing plane drills to assist golfers work on improving their swing plane. Here are a couple of of the swing plane tips I work on to help me stay consistent with my plane:

  • As the club goes back and up on the backswing, have the butt end of the club facing an imaginary line that is drawn straight back from the golf ball
  • Maintain your spine angle as this will hold your golf swing plane much more consistent…Feel like you are sitting down during the swing
  • As you begin the downswing return the club on a similar path as the backswing…Feel as though you have a one plane golf swing
  • Maintain a consistent head position all through the golf swing
  • Do not  sway off the golf ball in the course of the backswing
  • Work on exceptional balance during the entire golf swing
  • Sense as if you stay down and under the imaginary pane of glass

The golf swing plane  can appear complicated and tough to understand.  Work on a few of my recommendations every single time you hit the practice range. I know these ideas will help you build a a lot more consistent golf swing plane that will trigger lower golf scores.
